1. Dubare Elephant Camp
Dubare Elephant Camp, located on the banks of River Cauvery attracts hundreds of tourists every day. The camp is home to several Asiatic elephants and tourists can spend quality time with these gentle beasts. Elephant rides, elephant showers, feeding the elephants and boating are some of the activities that visitors can enjoy here.
Keep an eye out for other wild animals such as spotted deers, sambar, leopards and birds such as kingfishers, woodpeckers and peacocks. The camp is maintained by Karnataka Forest Department and Jungle Lodges and Resort.
2. Nisargadhama Forest
Nisargadhama Falls and Island is the perfect picturesque picnic spot near Madikeri. This serene island is surrounded by River Cauvery and visitors can be seen enjoying boat rides in the water. This beautiful island is home to teak, sandalwood and bamboo trees. You may also be greeted by sights of rabbits, spotted deer and peacocks on the island.
Children can be seen having a gala time at the children’s park and mini zoo. Complete your visit by enjoying a quiet lunch at the treehouse restaurant. Touring Nisargadhama will take up to 2 hours and will leave you feeling serene and content!
3. Namdroling Monastery / Golden Temple Coorg
Namdroling Monastery or Golden Temple is the last destination in our itinerary. Located at a distance of 60 KM from Nisargadhama, the monastery is the largest school of Nyingmapa studies. The massive monastery was built by exiled Tibetans in 1960s and is spread over a massive area of 80 sq. feet. The monastery showcases some extraordinary pieces of Tibetan architecture and artwork.
The temple is adorned with ornate walls and exemplary murals. The main attraction of the monastery are the 40 feet high golden statues of Buddhist gurus and wall paintings of Tibetan mythology. The prayer rituals held here are mesmerizing and must be attended by one and all!
